NYSUT President Melinda Person has issued the following statement in support of Gov. Hochul's request for federal support in the wake of asylum-seekers entering to the state over the past several months:
"We echo Gov. Hochul's call for federal aid. The entire state will feel the impact of relocation efforts, especially as kids and educators return to classrooms in a few weeks.
"The federal government must send targeted funding so our newest students and their families can thrive."
Earlier this week, President Person penned an op-ed calling for the state and federal governments to do more to support schools and communities with an influx of families and students.
